Why a dog, why the breed poodle?

Many friends started asking me why do I suddenly keeping a dog. Next question they would ask is there any special reason why I have chosen a poodle among so many breeds.

Well the fact was we didn't plan for having a dog. it was kind of impulse decision.

Keith told me last Oct 08, that he liked to buy a puppy to give it to me as a birthday present. I was not very keen as I know there would be lots of extra tasks to be done besides the household chores.

I gave in cos I could sensed that Keith really liked to have a puppy at home.

We visited the Pasir Ris Farm where there are a number of shops selling puppies. We visited almost every shop. In 1 of the shop, we happened to chat with 1 sales assistant, he was very helpful in providing dog's information. So we spent some time there chatting with him. We notice a very chubby poodle, and decided to adopt him. However after bathing him, he realized he just deliver some skin problem so he refused to sell me and asked me to choose the other female poodle puppy at 8 weeks old. She appeared tame therefore we went ahead and carry her back home, cost us S$1500 in total.
According to the shop assistant, poodle's fur would not shed. This fact is one of the good reason that influenced me to be more pro towards choosing a toy poodle. Poodle is the world's second most intelligent dog, which makes him the most trainable breed. This fact is push factor for Keith in getting the breed.
The sad part was Kioko passed on on the 16th day with us. She has to be put to sleep as she has contracted a deadly virus known as distemper which slowly eats up her brain and she was in great pain and experienced multiple seizures.

I was depressed by the fact why the dog was so short-lived. secondly, my birthday was not over yet. I also told myself no more of keeping a dog as this may be a advance warning to us. (we did got back full refund from the shop)

Apparently Keith has not given up the idea as he insist he wanna get another 1. I tried to discourage him but I failed.

However I have no confidence in those pet shop, I decided to go online looking around if there are anyone giving up their pet. I don't mind adopting one.

Finally, we found a lady who liked to sell off the 4 off-springs of her 2 pet poodles. and left the last 1 which was a male. Upon viewing this puppy at his 6+ weeks, we immediately paid the deposit. Really hard to resist as he was so adorable. he was known as a little fat boy.
at the void deck for first viewing

We learnt from our first experience. I checked online on puppy's health, how to choose a healthy puppy and also learnt about their common behaviour. Sourcing of information prior the action is really important.

We fetched Kaspar home a week later after we thoroughly cleaned our house with Bleach.

Fat boy lying on our kitchen floor. less than a tile's length.

p/s: We paid $990 for Kaspar

My poodle went for neutering today

I took a cab and bring Kaspar to the Vet today. Dr Ng has told us our puppy can be neutered once after 6month's old. Kaspar is 7+ months old now.

Upon reaching the Vet place at Warrington Place,

The taxi driver ask, " Where is this place?"
I replied " This is a Vet's place. If you have any friends with sick dogs, you can introduce them to this vet, he's good"
Taxi driver clarified, " oh you open this place?"
I confirmed, " No."
Taxi driver thought he knew the answer, " oh you came here to work?"
I laughed. "I brought my dog here."
Taxi driver was looking for the dog.
I told him that the dog was in the bag.
He was shocked " Will he be out of breath?"
I assured him, " No, cos have holes at the side of the bag"
Taxi driver was not very convinced, " hmmm I didn't hear him at all"
I agreed. " Yes he don't make noise."
(I forgot to open the bag and let him look at the dog. lol)

When Kaspar was on the operating table, he started to shiver (his 6 sense was good). I Sayang him and assured him that everything will be alright. I left.

Keith went to pick him after work. He was on collar. He would be on collar for the next 2 weeks. He would not be allowed to bathe for 2 weeks as well till unstitching is done.

Keith paid a total of S$350. This amount included the neuter ops fee, inserting the micro-chip, medication and cleaning neccessities.

He vomitted 3 times from just now. Even he is a greedy puppy, he also lost his appetite totally as he has not eaten anything since last night 10p.m.

He is very much in pain as he stand most of the time, refusing to sit down.

Something worth to praise is he never failed to be a friendly dog even in such condition. Today Soka's friends came my place for meeting. Kaspar still greet them at the door and without fail, very busybody going around everyone while all guys were doing chanting.
